Because the genuine 3M 300LSE adhesive is formulated for an industrial-strength, unyielding bond, proper surface preparation is critical. Follow these simple steps for a perfect application:
- Prep the Surface: Clean the lower downtube thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol to remove all mud, grit, wax, or bike wash residue. Ensure the frame is completely dry.
- Dry Test-Fit: Before peeling the adhesive backing, press the guard firmly against your frame to check alignment with any existing protection (like Ride Wrap) or frame bolt holes.
- Apply & Bond: Peel away the protective 3M backing liner. Align one edge first, then press the guard down firmly from the center outward to displace any trapped air.
Pro Tip: 3M 300LSE reaches 90% bond strength after 20 minutes, but takes a full 24 hours to cure completely. For maximum durability, let the bike sit overnight before loading it onto a tailgate pad or hitting rowdy trails.
